Catch Your Next Level!

I Are Conscious

People don't have to buy your music. Don't try and make'em feel bad cause they won't.

Seems like everyone these days has some type of music merch to sell. Check out my EP. I have downloads on itunes. With shouts of 'support the artists' ringing in my ears, I ask artists who need support if they'd really like five bucks to buy something to eat or help with their rent. Often times it's really not to support the music. It is to support you. How often do you actually have someone approach you in a manner in which he/she relays the message of wanting to really share music with you for you benefit not theirs? A person 'telling' me to support them by buying the music is not appealing. Neither is trying to make someone feel guilty for not purchasing your product. What if I don't want it? What if I don't like your music? Just because you have music for sell I'm not obligated to cop it. I'm all for checking out new stuff. It's mostly about an approach. But I often wonder if artists are so wrapped up in themselves actually realize and know that hey ain't no one gottah buy it because you offer it up. I think it's important to use the internet more productively, finding out who your audience really is and offering people your music, developing relationships with potential fans. There are many tools available online. Use them and target those that are looking to buy something you may have, instead of trynah blindly force your music down a random persons throat and getting mad with listeners when you don't get the support that you're looking for.

P.S. I have a ton of free music online and I still sell music. There are millions of people that may very well buy something from you. Find'em the right way and stop harassing people that are not interested.

Well put.

Any type of marketing / sales approach is bound to be met with resistance. The savvy individual realizes this and does not get tied to the results of his / her pitch. It's 100% natural for an artist to attach oneself to a body of work, but taking an antagonistic approach is counterproductive and unprofessional.

Okay, I totally agree...but doesn't it piss you off like a mutha when people tell you how great you are, how amazing your show was, how blah blah blah, and then say they need that 10 bucks to buy another beer! LOL!!!!!
"You guys were amazing! Great show! You're the best band I've ever seen here!"
"Awesome, would you like to buy a CD?"
"Eh...uh...yea, but I wanna get another beer, sorry...but you were great though."

LOL! I must admit, I hate that. But I never make anyone feel bad about it, so...I maintain professionalism. But, you know...that concept changes a bit when you get to the level of potentially selling records nationally or internationally...at least with respect to being able to give back, or speak up socially for those who have no voice politically. No what I'm saying? At the level we're at, it doesn't matter though.
